Take some time to get to know Johanna Renfro, Search Account Manager at 3Q Digital who works from our San Diego office.
What’s the first metric you check when you start the day?
Spend, CPA, and anything on my “watch list” such as recently launched campaigns.
If you had $10M to personally invest, which marketing platform or technology would you invest in, and why?
I would start a company that makes digital marketing attainable for all small businesses and charities. With dozens of performance metrics, multiple channels, limited budget, and enough acronyms to classify digital as its own language, it can seem like an impossible mountain to climb. It would be a user-friendly place for these businesses to go where they could identify their KPIs and opportunities, and then be given a strategy (Local Google Paid Search, Facebook, etc.) that they were walked through step-by-step. Anyone who used a popular tax filing program this year is familiar with how straightforward yes-no questions and simple answers can turn something daunting into a stress-free experience. Digital agencies could be host contributors to build the content within the tool, or even sign up to manage charity accounts as part of their culture of giving back. This program would be a solution to set up very basic digital campaigns, however it would help get these small businesses and charities the money the need to mature, and potentially get to a point where they need to hire an agency (like 3Q Digital!) to grow their business.
What is your favorite advertising campaign?
I am a golden retriever enthusiast and collector. Everything about the Barkleys makes me happy!
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
What to stress about, and what not to stress about. When I first started as a search marketer I was overwhelmed trying to monitor every single detail. You should identify the things that move numbers on your accounts and prioritize energy there first.
What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
Continually asking ‘Why?’, ‘How?’, and ‘What can I do with this?’ to identify problems, find efficient solutions, and stay creative.
What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?
Dog-friendly offices! Alyssa and Riley (left) and myself and Charlie in the San Diego office.
Who is the unsung hero of your team?
Jen and Oliver. This dynamic duo has created a training program that sets 3Q Digital apart from other agencies. They live our core value of “treat everyone like a client” by constantly being a source of knowledge and support for every person at 3Q.
What’s the best part of your office? (and specify the office)
San Diego. Our moral support team (aka our dogs!).
Care to share your favorite spot to work from home?
The kitchen bar counter because I can stand while I work, it has lots of natural light, and it is close to the snacks.
What does 3Q’s culture mean to you?
3Q culture means anything is possible. Employees are encouraged to challenge the norm and develop new and better ways of doing our jobs. We are given resources to be creative with work and play so we can improve our work and ourselves. This has put 3Q on the radar as a leader in digital marketing innovation, and built a company where work-life-balance is a top priority.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to work at 3Q?
Get ready to realize that you don’t know as much as you think you know. You will learn and grow at 3Q!
Which of 3Q’s core values is most important to you, and why?
Treat everyone as a client. If we always take the time to help our peers, we will grow stronger as a company and always deliver the best to our clients.
Which 3Q value do you most embody, and how do you embody it?
Same as above. I try to always be approachable and available to help out my co-workers.
If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?
I am a California girl through and through. If I had to move from San Diego, I would head north to Oakland or San Francisco.
What is your motivation to come into work every day?
To help my clients grow and leave work feeling like I made a difference.
What has been your favorite perk item/activity?
San Diego has some awesome “perktivities.” My favorite was when we took a catamaran cruise around the San Diego harbor. It was a wild party on the bay!
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
I am recently engaged and am planning on taking a few weeks off for our honeymoon!
Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized duck?
100 duck-sized horses, but I would not fight them – I would snuggle them.
What is on your bucket list?
Visiting the other 3Q offices!
What’s your favorite thing on your desk?
My extensive Post-It collection.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Going to the beach with my family / friends / dog, and cooking!
