Get to know Jesse Morris, Account Lead at 3Q Digital, working remotely from Traverse City, Michigan.

What’s the first metric you check when you start the day? 

Conversion rate. If that has suddenly dropped off or spiked, you have some sort of issue and it lets you know that you need to take a closer look. Spend is next, for the same reason.

What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?

Intellectual curiosity. Otherwise you start to just accept the numbers as-is. What you need to be asking yourself is, “Why is that happening? Can it be better? What else can I do?” It’s really important to keep yourself from just coasting on what you already know. This industry changes constantly, and you have to keep up with those changes. 

What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q? 

Definitely that I am able to work remotely. This allows me to live in a part of the country that I love, while still pursuing a challenging career and wearing fuzzy slippers all day during the colder months. My second favorite thing is the perks you get from being a part of a large agency. We get great support from Google and Bing, first access to betas, and fast answers to our questions.

What’s the best part of your office?


My office mascot, Rocket, at my remote office in Traverse City, MI. Due to a poorly conceived wager with my husband, I I gave up naming rights to our puppy/polar bear hybrid, so yes, she’s named after this Rocket. 

Care to share your favorite spot to work from home?

It’s not interesting, but I actually work from my desk almost all the time. It’s rare that I’m willing to give up having extra monitor space just for the comfort of working on the couch. However, if I DO work from the couch, it often looks like this. 


What does 3Q’s culture mean to you?

It means that we are never expected to look at short-term profits over building a lasting, mutually beneficial relationship with our clients. We know that if the best thing for our clients is to reduce spend, or recommend against the exciting new channel, then that’s what we’re expected to do.

Which of 3Q’s core values is most important to you, and why? 

Do the Math: without understanding exactly what is happening, you can’t diagnose or improve it.

If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?

As we move into the cold, snowy Michigan winter, I’m going to have to say San Diego. I like sunshine.

What has been your favorite perk item/activity?

My standing desk! It’s so comfortable to sit at. Just kidding. Actually, I find that it’s much easier for conference calls, since I tend to pace during them anyway. 

Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?

Do we know that the 100 duck sized horses actually want to fight? If I throw out a bunch of apple slices the issue is probably solved, plus I’ve cornered the market on petite lap horses.
