This is the subhead for the blog post
Last month, I signed onto the 3Q Creative team as a Graphic Designer; I was excited for my first foray into the agency world. Coming from the nonprofit realm, I knew I wanted a fast-paced and varied experience, but I didn’t know exactly what to expect. To my delight, I found none of the typical agency stereotypes: cut-throat tactics, employees being worked to the bone, etc. Instead, the 3Q culture permeates respect for employees’ well-being, integrity towards clients, and a high degree of individual ownership towards projects.
Let me share with your some of my initial takeaways:
1. Fail fast and iterate.
In the true fashion of 3Q testing, we are asked to be bold and take smart risks. 3Q employees avoid analysis paralysis and use the data to drive decision-making. The 3Q Creative team is no exception. We are given the freedom to try crazy things and get feedback. Art is all about stretching the boundaries, and at 3Q we are encouraged to do it.

2. Everyone has something to teach you.
Feedback doesn’t bite (at least not at 3Q)! There is no room for egos; it takes a team to produce great work. I saw a great example of collective ownership during my first week. Almost every member of the team was assigned to a certain project at some point, each contributing their part to polish the deliverable. With this type of work, there has to be a lot of trust and communication to keep projects moving forward, and constructive, focused feedback is always welcome.
Everyone has something to teach you.
3. Be curious about what others are doing.
Copying is good! In the design field, it’s important to get ideas and insights from others and improve on them. There are few truly original ideas, but plenty of innovative applications, and at a place like 3Q, there are tons of talented people to bounce ideas off of. It really helps having such a wide range of expertise in our office, and across the company, so that we can check out what’s happening outside of our field to bring in a fresh perspective to our own work.
The best way to grow is to get out of your comfort zone, and my first few weeks at 3Q have been no exception! I’m excited to see what the next few have in store.
