Our Humans of 3Q series continues this week with Cameron McCourt, Senior Account Manager/Office Manager out of our Denver office! Get to know Cameron below:
Explain your role at 3Q in 3 sentences or fewer:
I manage +$1.5M/month in ad spend primarily on SEM, GDN, Gmail, and YouTube. Account optimization, analysis, client communication, and strategy development all fall into my role. I am also the Denver Office Manager and help plan fun team-building events while providing support for the members of the office (and buying snacks of course).
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
The highest-paid person’s opinion is most likely not the most informed and therefore not the best option. Don’t be afraid to push back and provide an alternative opinion based on data/facts.
What sets 3Q apart from other agencies in the industry?
The people and management styles – 3Q has the most welcoming environment with the nicest people. I also have never had a better work/life balance at ANY of my past jobs.
What’s something that makes your office cooler than the other 3Q offices?
We are small but mighty. Because of our small size, we are truly friends in the office; it doesn’t feel like a burden to go to a company event, and we genuinely enjoy hanging out after work. We also have Guitar Hero lunches where we shred our stress away and are planning many concerts at Red Rocks (IMHO the best concert venue in America).
When coworkers from other offices come to visit, what’s one thing they absolutely have to do in your city?
Go to the mountains!! We have all this nature at our fingertips – hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, rafting, hot springs! Also, you must visit a brewery – I don’t care which one, as they are all fantastic (but Crooked Stave has a soft spot in my heart for their great sour collection).
Tell us about your morale associate (pet: if you have one).
Finn (Finnegan-egan-egan) is part dingo, part tiger, part hyena. When he isn’t running in circles or begging you to shake his paw, he likes to lean on the couch (since he isn’t allowed on it) and “talk” to you in his own way, which can be very distracting if you are trying to focus on the latest season of The OA (or re-watching LOST for the 4th time).
What’s been the coolest thing you’ve done with your unlimited PTO?
I spent a week in London and 2 weeks in Morocco in December. I also have been taking advantage of our amazing WFW (work from wherever) policy and recently traveled in the south of France for 2 weeks.
Have you participated in 3Q 3%? If so, what’s been your favorite experience?
Plogging!! Picking up litter while jogging is a great way to give back to the community.
How do you spend your free time?
Traveling and eating! I mostly travel for the food (sometimes the sightseeing).
What 3Q initiative outside of your job description are you most proud of being a part of?
I don’t know if I can put office manager, but I truly love being here for my fellow coworkers and making sure everyone has a great time. Spirit and Diversity committee is also high up on the list.
If you could choose any TV show or movie world to live in, what would it be?
Broad City – I wish I could be best friends with Abbi and Ilana, however I might die of asphyxiation from laughing too much.
What do you think has been the most interesting change in the marketing industry or in your channel this year?
AI / Automated strategies – previously these were seen as unreliable and risky. Now that the algorithms are being perfected, automation saves time and allows for Account Managers to focus more on overall strategy and new creative avenues for growth.
If you were given an unlimited amount of money to invest into one upcoming or exciting marketing technology, what would it be?
VR. I think VR will be huge in the next 10 years and a great place for marketing if it is done in an unobtrusive manner.
