Take some time to get to know Mason Garrity, VP of Strategy at 3Q Digital working out of our San Francisco office (and recent recipient of the best white elephant gift in 3Q’s history).
What is your favorite advertising campaign?
Growing up, I really loved the Absolut Vodka print ads. I used to collect them and hang them up in my room. Pretty sure I was too young to even know what vodka was, but I was definitely drawn to the creativity and endless versatility of the campaign.
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
How to focus on what matters. I feel like there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors in our industry, and there are so many fluffy metrics that you can get distracted by. It takes a while to build up a big enough foundation and fundamental understanding of how you can influence numbers positively without getting lost in the data.
What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
You’ve gotta be highly analytical, creative, and of course a “grinder”. With all of the data and tools at our disposal, figuring out the best way to leverage them and putting in the hours is the only way to succeed.
What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?
Our clients. This is what initially drew me to 3Q (PPC Associates back in the day), and our roster has only gotten more impressive over the years I’ve been here. It’s an incredibly unique experience to get to work with the type of innovative companies that we do.
What’s the best part of your office?
I work out of San Francisco, so I’d have to say our kegerator and cornhole set. No bias in that answer at all.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to work at 3Q?
You’re going to learn a lot, and be pushed to do a lot, so if you’re not hungry to continuously improve and work really hard, it’s probably not a great fit for you.
If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?
Easy, San Diego. Love the beach and you can’t beat the weather. Until we open an office in South Florida, San Diego is my pick.
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
I’m getting married next year, so I’m trying to line up a nice chunk of time for a honeymoon.
What’s your favorite thing on your desk?
I pretty much had nothing on my desk until just recently. I was able to secure a limited edition framed photo of 3Q’s own Rising Star, Jay Stampfl, at our Holiday white elephant gift exchange. Thankfully, I had a Sharpee in my briefcase and he was nice enough to sign it with a personal note – “Do your best!!”
