If you had $10M to personally invest, which marketing platform or technology would you invest in, and why?
I think data analytics is the key to our future success. Any performance marketing we do relies on the validity and reliability of data collection. I would invest in a platform that could easily and seamlessly tie together a visitor’s online experience as they migrate across devices. There are already capabilities to do that now, but the process is by no means easy. So the $10MM would go to seeing if we can simplify that process. And if somehow, I could get keyword-level data back, I’d dump some change into that too.
What is your favorite advertising campaign?
There are a lot that come to mind, but I think one of my favorites so far is from Aerie. They are using unretouched photos and no super-thin supermodels.
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
There is a point of diminishing returns on your investment. And in this case, I’m talking about time. Getting stuck down a research/investigatory rabbit hole will only force you to descend into either madness or frustration. When you hit that point or your brain is exhausted, take a break and come back to it tomorrow or later in the week.
What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
Being opinionated and being able to defend that opinion! Of course, not all opinions are right, but I reserve the right to be wrong if I can defend it to my death!
Who is the unsung hero of your team?
I don’t think we have any unsung heroes on my team because I have an amazingly supportive team who is always willing to jump in to help whenever and whereever they can. We’re a small, but mighty group.
What is your motivation to come into work every day?
I have an amazing team, filled with really passionate, self-motivated and talented folks. Coming to work is like coming to hang out with friends – I love it.
What has been your favorite perk item/activity?
Bubble soccer, baby!
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
Last year, I went to the Caribbean and next year, I’m going to Vietnam.
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?
100 duck-sized horses. And by fight, do you mean tempt with treats and possibly foster them until I find them suitable homes? Because let’s be real, who wouldn’t want a duck-sized horse as a pet?
What’s your favorite thing on your desk?
Probably the action dolls I have stuck on top of my monitor. It’s a superwoman and ninja..
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Read and binge watch Netflix. Currently reading: Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. As far as recommendations (because I know you’re dying for them): A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra and Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay. You won’t regret it! 🙂 Currently binge watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Charmed (I have a thing for TV shows that feature strong female leads).
