Get to Know Joseph Kerschbaum, Senior Director, Client Services at 3Q Digital

Take some time today to get to know Joseph Kerschbaum, Senior Director of Client Services working out of our Chicago office.
What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
I think drive is one of the most important qualities. I suppose you could call it passion (wishy-washy, I know), or perhaps another word would be purpose or dedication. If you have a drive to do good, smart work, then the rest should follow. If you are driven to generate great results in campaigns; to continuously learn new tactics; to focus on personal progression in productivity, responsibility, service – then you’ll be successful. All this can fall under having a purpose to deliver at peak performance for your client, team and company. If you’re just punching a clock or getting by, that will certainly not lead to success.
What is your favorite advertising campaign?
I like the recent, “Is Mankind?” campaign from AirBnb. I think they’ve crossed that threshold from stating the nuts-and-bolts of their service, and into more purpose marketing. This core statement of this campaign is, “Airbnb believes that people can and should feel like they belong anywhere in the world. That feeling is possible because of the human kindness found in our community–because of hosts who were once strangers, who welcome us no matter how far we are from home.”
I really like this because it gives a greater purpose to their service. It is a remark on the kindness of humanity, which is at the core of their business. You need good people to serve as nice hosts to good people who will be nice guests.
What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?
The people. 3Q is stacked with smart, driven and friendly team members. We truly have a collaborative environment so everyone learns from and supports each other.
What does 3Q’s culture mean to you?
To me, the five pillars of the 3Q culture focus on team work and community. The company culture encourages team members to own it, act for the greater good and act as if everyone is a client. The theme is that to have a strong team, you have to focus on helping the team and our clients. And I think it shows that the team members who live these values are rewarded.
Which of 3Q’s core values is most important to you, and why?
Lately, I’ve been focused on “Act for the Greater Good.” This means to mentor younger teammates, help a team member on a tough assignment, or seek to build positivity and teamwork throughout the organization.
What is your motivation to come into work every day?
I’m lucky to have a lot of motivation! My first motivation is my family. Hard work provides for my family. And I’m lucky enough to love the hard work. Second is my team. They’re an awesome group of people and I want to make sure their doing great in their roles. Third is our clients. We have a great roaster of clients who depend on us to help grow their business.
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
Just last fall my family went to Denmark and spent a week in Copenhagen. It was amazing! The Danes know how to live. They say Denmark has the happiest population on earth, and I can see why.
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?
Definitely 100 duck sized horses. There would be no fighting. Rather, there would be the naming of each one, corralled, snuggled and brushed since I would unleash my 5YO daughter on them. And she would love them!
