Take some time to get to know Jason Bruggemann, Account Lead at 3Q Digital from Chicago.
What’s the first metric you check when you start the day?
Nothing gets checked until I’ve had my coffee, so coffee count (the total number of k-cups remaining). After that is a review of my account summaries, which include efficiency metrics and spend levels. I am slightly obsessed with my budget docs that I’ve created. And AdWords Scripts save me a ton of time when checking metrics.
What’s one metric you rarely bother to check?
The banana count, ’cause it’s usually at zero. There are a lot of fans of bananas in the office and at home. The dog loves bananas.
If you had $10M to personally invest, which marketing platform or technology would you invest in, and why?
The IoT is ramping up. Find me a tech company that enables users to advertise across these “things,” or incorporates the data from them, and you can have all of my money.
What is your favorite advertising campaign?
Gatorade: “Be Like Mike” – I sing it almost everyday as motivation when there’s a fire drill.
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
Don’t actually try to be like Mike at work. Turns out shooting hoops isn’t an integral part of the job.
What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
Two key skills: 1. Project Management; 2. The ability to push back. It’s so easy to take on so much with limited time. It’s important to find a good balance for your accounts and for your personal health.
What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?
Unlimited PTO, strong WFH policy, and how we work with the best companies. It’s really the place to be.
Who is the unsung hero of your team?
CLIFF BARS – And Nick Avram, Kimberly Garner, and Kevin Vlcek. Workhorses.
Care to share your favorite spot to work from home?
I’m proud of this one – mainly because of the Chicago flag.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to work at 3Q?
You’re going to have to deal with a lot of great people and a lot of great clients with a lot of opportunities to go above and beyond.
If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?
San Diego/Austin – the weather. These Chicago winters are no joke.
What is your motivation to come into work every day?
The office folk. Super people doing super things.
What has been your favorite perk item/activity?
A couple of my favorites: a fully-stocked kitchen and the option to request anything. I asked for chocolate milk one time and it showed up a couple of days later. How cool is that?
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
Trips I’ve been on: Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone, Utah, Eric Swanson’s Wedding, Riviera Maya/Chichen Itza, St. Lucia, Austin, New Orleans
Trips I am planning: Toronto & Belize
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?
One swift kick to a duck-sized horse will likely immobilize me due to their bony structure. Taking a lot of chances with that one. One horse-sized duck sounds like the scariest thing ever. I’d take my chances with the tiny horses.
Hot dogs or hamburgers?
I’m working on a combo. Calling it the “dogburger.” Wait, just realized that won’t work; back to the drawing board…
What is on your bucket list?
-Backpacking in the Pacific Northwest
-Road trip across the country
-Mountain biking in Utah
What’s your favorite thing on your desk?
I have one thing on my desk – a framed photo of one of Michael Jordan’s dunks from the 1988 slam dunk contest. “Sometimes I wish…”
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
“Here are a few of my favorite things”: Play with my dog, Chip; play my guitars when Chip isn’t begging for me to stop; photography, eat a lot; hike; work out a lot; learn things with my raspberry pi; basketball; soccer – too many hobbies.
Never thought I’d be a crazy dog owner but I am. The dog has a lot of personality. I mean just look at this guy:
