What’s the first metric you check when you start the day?
First metric I check is spend. Is there any? Too much/too little? Once you get more familiar with an account, you get a feeling for where spend should be every morning.
What quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
Attention to detail and ownership of responsibility (this is two qualities). The first prevents mistakes, and the second helps catch them. Nothing we do is “set it and forget it,” so I’ve found that the most successful marketers have a real interest in following up frequently with recent changes they’ve made to measure the impact.
What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?
The trust they place in employees. I occasionally take long weekends and work from my destination that Friday. Most people I know don’t have that opportunity with their employer. I also once broke my leg and worked from home for 2 months straight, which was a nice option to have.
If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?
Chicago — I’ve always enjoyed my visits there and feel like their culture is a good fit with my approach to work.
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
I’m going to Argentina for 2 weeks in October.
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?
Using Howard as my baseline for a larger-than-life duck, I’m going to say horse-sized duck. That thing is not intimidating at any scale.

What is on your bucket list?
I’d like to see the northern lights one day, but my bucket list is always changing.
What’s your favorite thing on your desk?
I have a Cal football mini-helmet that I use to organize cables.
