Get to know Blair Matsuura, Account Director at 3Q Digital, working out of our San Francisco office.
What are the first metrics you check when you start the day?
I check 2 metrics: conversions and CPA. Volume and efficiency are the pillars of performance marketing.
What is your favorite advertising campaign?
It has to be the “Yo quiero Taco Bell” campaign. This campaign really struck a chord with people; I mean, who doesn’t love a talking dog? I bet the campaign was wildly successful for Taco Bell sales but culturally, the chihuahua went from a random little dog to one of the most popular dog breeds in America. The campaign was so influential, it made Paris Hilton’s dog famous.
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
Do not assume anything; always look at data with a clean slate first. It’s easy to misinterpret data or make a specious analysis with an incorrect assumption or bias.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to work at 3Q?
If you are hungry to grow professionally, learn fast, and are good with numbers, there is opportunity for you at 3Q.
What is your motivation to come into work every day?
I manage a super-talented and smart young team. They are driven and insanely collaborative and really care about driving great results for our clients. I have a lot of love and respect for everything that they do. Working with and mentoring my team keeps me coming in early every morning.
If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?
I’ve always wanted to move to New York. I hear it’s a fun city.
What has been your favorite perk item/activity?
The Zogg Sports San Francisco Cornhole League. We had an undefeated regular season but lost a close match in the finals. We are coming for you, pink team…
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
Burning Man, Spain, a failed summit attempt on Mt. Shasta.
Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized duck?
I’d rather fight the horse-sized duck so I can win, earn its respect, and tame it like in Avatar.
What is on your bucket list?
To name a few: Summit Mt. Shasta, go skydiving, Inca Trail to Machu Piccu, hike Na Pali Coast in Kaui, and Oktoberfest.
What’s your favorite thing on your desk?
My Rubik’s Cube.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Reading, rock climbing, and enjoying the Cali sunshine.
