I’m going to let you in on a little secret. The other offices won’t admit this, but the Austin office is by far the coolest at 3Q. They’ll deny it, and will try to convince you otherwise, but we all know the truth..

Our other offices are amazing too. NYC, SF, San Diego, San Mateo, Charlottesville, Chicago, Vermont, Raleigh, all great — but ours takes the cake. Why? Because Austin. You can’t help but fall in love with our hot summer nights, awesome food, expansive live music scene, and killer culture. I, like so many others, was smitten after my first weekend visit. I came home, convinced no other place could ever be right for me again, and moved out just three weeks later. I’m not alone. Some estimates put the number of people moving to Austin as high as 157 a day.

So, what is it about Austin that hooks people? Let’s walk through the list, and along the way I’ll explain how our office not only mirrors, but exemplifies the best Austin has to offer:

1. The People

ATX: Surprisingly enough, the first answer everyone gives for what makes Austin so unique isn’t tacos. I know everyone is shocked, but calm down tacos, you’ll get your turn. Austin exhibits the perfect blend of southern hospitality, Texas pride, and exceptional inclusivity. “Keep Austin Weird” is the motto, but “live and let live” is the air Austinites breathe. While still considered a large city, Austin has a small-town feel that makes it easy to get to know your neighbors, make friends, and build real, lasting connections. The biggest complaint about Austin I’ve heard from newbies to the area is that the clerks at grocery stores will sometimes get lost in conversation with the person in front of you, leaving you to wait impatiently while the ice cream in your cart slowly melts. How’s that for problems? The pace of life is slower here, the communities are tight-knit, and everyone is willing to help out whether they know you or not.

3Q: Our Austin team embodies everything that makes Austin culture amazing. Every member of our team is fun, friendly, caring, and ready to lend a hand. How do I know this? Aside from being around everyone day to day, we also just moved into our own office and spent the last month assembling everything we needed. Nothing shows people’s true colors like building endless amounts of IKEA furniture. Think back to the last time you had to assemble multiple pieces at once — yeah, you know what I’m talking about. Assembling an office with this crew was fun and really brought everyone closer together. Even the most tedious tasks become entertainment.

When we’re not bonding over furniture construction, we regularly make time for team outings to get dinner or lunch, go to happy hour, or take excursions to things like the Escape the Room game, or Top Golf. We’ve also been known to leave early on a Friday to volunteer in the community.

2. The Tech Scene

ATX: Austin’s tech scene is exploding right now. It’s an exciting time to be here. There are more networking events, meetup groups, and workshops than you could possibly ever attend, and that’s not just for job seekers. People are constantly looking to exchange ideas, learn new skills, up their game, or get involved in side projects. Social currency is huge in Austin. I, like so many others, moved here without many connections and found that people genuinely want to help you get on your feet. There’s no shortage of people willing to meet a stranger to give advice on a job or career path, or open up their network. When you become established here, you then have an opportunity to pay it forward to someone that stands in the shoes you used to, which creates an incredibly giving environment, and a great incubator for the next world changing idea.

3Q: We place a high value on innovation at 3Q. We are not only looking to keep up with digital marketing trends, but to be the drivers that pave the future of those trends. Our Austin team strives to stay up-to-date with what’s going on locally whether that means attending a Built In Austin or Austin Digital Jobs networking event, attending a women in business meeting, or going to a Tom Hanks’ book reading (Yes, two of my coworkers are doing this. Yes, I’m super jealous). As our office grows into the future, we’re building up to start hosting some of these events ourselves and take a more active role in shaping the blossoming tech scene around us.

3. The Food

ATX: Austin is a foodie’s dream. We have everything. Feeling like tacos? They are everywhere, in so many variations that it’s impossible to get bored of them. Looking for meat sweats? This is Texas. There are dozens of nationally renowned BBQ places primed for the opportunity to wow you. Vegan or vegetarian? We’ve got you covered. The worst thing about eating in Austin is there simply isn’t enough time to try everything you want to. Another terrible problem to have, right?

3Q: 3Q has this wonderful program called Office Perks. Each office is awarded a specific budget per head, and we get to decide how we spend it. Being the food-motivated Austinites that we are, we regularly indulge in Taco Tuesdays, Smoothie Wednesdays, Thursday Team Lunch, and the occasional Tiff’s Treats order. We also have a fully stocked pantry with all the Topo Chico and La Croix our hearts desire, Welch’s fruit snacks, Cheez Its, cereal and granola for breakfast, beef jerky, a spread of protein bars, and anything else we decide to Instacart. On top of that, about once a quarter we splurge on a takeout order of Franklin’s BBQ (top rated in Austin and a 3+ hour wait if you try to go to the restaurant itself). Pro tip: the brisket and banana bourbon pies are to die for.

4. The Dogs

ATX: Every season is puppy season in Austin. People bring their dogs everywhere: to the park, the river, bars, restaurants, to work, etc. We even have a bar here specifically made for dogs to come and play that charges a cover for pets instead of people. On a typical afternoon, you can find a few hundred dogs running around on the trails near the river and at Zilker Park. If you are a dog lover, Austin is your city. Your pets may end up making more friends than you here.

3Q: Sadly enough, our new building is not totally dog-friendly, which is equally as heartbreaking for us as it is for our 3Q pets. We are working on it, though, and hopefully that won’t be the case forever. In the meantime, with our flexible work policy, you can work from home or leave for lunch to visit your furry friend whenever you need to.

Hopefully these three will be joining us again sooner rather than later..

I could go on for hours about the other amazing aspects of Austin. I didn’t even dive into the music scene, community service, art, outdoors activities, etc. But trust me, they are all incredible. To close out this post though, I will leave you with a few images of our killer Game of Thrones-themed office:

The decor pulls together elements of each unique personality in the office, and we’re not done! You can help us put the last few finishing touches on it. If you’ve thought about moving to Austin, come visit. I guarantee you’ll love it. We chose an office that we could grow into, and we’d love to have you! You can check out our open positions here. :)
