Even the most fiercely independent search account managers should know when to reach out for help from Google, Bing, or Yahoo account reps. Search engine account teams are good for more than opting into Betas and can provide solutions that will make your life easier. Here are some little-known perks to working with your SEM reps.
1. They can change your account’s time zone
Did you make a mistake setting up or need to change time zone for business reasons?
Your account rep can help you change your time zone once over your account’s lifetime. The change is not retroactive, so your historical data will be in the original time zone.
Bing: You need to ask to change your account time zone and campaign time zone.
Yahoo: Switch process can take 3-5 business days. Your account will be paused during this time. All campaigns must be paused for 48 hours before engineers can work on the switch.
2. They can help you create a seasonal bidding strategy
Reps have access to their engine’s historical volume data and can tell you when your keywords see high and low seasonality.
For one client, our Google reps put together search volume by month over the last five years that helped us visualize when we’d see the highest and lowest seasonal volume for each category of keywords.
3. They can help you filter out poor-quality search partner traffic
Bing: Your Bing reps can provide you with a list of poor-performing placements on their partner network that you can exclude from your campaigns.
Yahoo: You can’t pull this report yourself in the UI, but you can request that your Yahoo team send you a publishers performance report that will show performance for each search partner site that you’re showing up on. They can also exclude partners for you.
4. Google can host an mLAb (Mobile Lab Day)
Google can help put together a half-day or full-day session with your client that goes deep into their mobile performance, UX, and areas of opportunity. This is a great feature for a client that might not be using mobile to its highest potential or has room for improvement.
5. They can send you account health reports
Your Google team can send you Hornet Reports that can give you a quick overview of existing opportunities and show you whether your campaign settings are consistent. Be warned, the Hornet template is one-size-fits-all, and all reports may not be appropriate for your client.
Your Bing team can also provide you with similar information and quickly scan your campaign structure and let you know if there are any missed opportunities.
